Tell me who you are running with...!

"Tell me who you are running with and I'll tell you the quality of your run"

There is a phrase in Spanish "Dime con quien andas y te diré quien eres" (Tell me who you are with and I'll tell you who you are.) For this post, I've modify the phrase to share how running with Kate made a big difference for me Saturday.

We ran 8 miles. On that morning, I was not particularly excited about running, but as soon as we got to the Richmond Marina, I felt invigorated just by seeing my teammates and feeling the sunny morning. Nonetheless, 8 miles are 8 miles!

Kate runs faster than me, but she accommodated. I did too, by running a bit faster then usual. Then the conversation was interesting. We both talked and listened. Then we started to laugh about life, while running. It also helped that we would say Hi, Bye and Go Team to every person we encountered. The water stops and the stops to the restrooms helped too.

But Kate's story telling was fundamental for our running the last part of the 8 miles. See, there is a point where some runners get bored or anxious. Your body is fine, you are running with energy and technique, but your mind is trying to stop you.

Experienced runners know they can do many things to manage their thinking. Kate's story-telling should be added to it.

I'll tell you what the story was about, if one day you run with me.

And so we ran 8 miles at a good pace, with easy, and lots of fun. I call it quality run.

Fundraising - Steps for getting support

I have contacted 5 local businesses asking for support for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Brought the LLS letter and my own plea.

1. A local coffee shop
2. A local grocery store
3. A chain grocery store
4. Another chain grocery store
5. A Latino owned store

Lets see what happens!

Un paso para atrás

All this past week, despite being overbooked and having worked long hours, I woke up early and run 3 miles every morning: easy. But today I took a step behind and I do not like it.

It all started last night, I think. I had a glass of wine out of boredom and trying to unwind after a very busy week. When I woke up this morning, the energy was just not there. I drove to the site where teammates would run first then we'd gather to listen to some of our honorees -people who are dealing with blood cancers.

I made a left instead of a right. That is how my figuratively "Un paso para atrás" began. Many blocks and 30 minutes later I realized I would never find Arboleda Drive. Being late, the stress of a lost driver, and just not feeling physically energetic, took over.

Not even 3 miles I ran.
I do not like it, but I accept it.
I accept it but wont repeat it.
And I wont repeat it because damn it, am committed to running!

Better Buy Butter Because There Are Barely A Few Left!
